The Home School Programs are at the heart of the Laughing Coyote Project. There are two phases of programs:
Youth Experience is for younger students to enter the world of nature. Through the Youth Leadership program older students gain powerful earth based skills and through added responsibility develop potent leadership qualities. These two programs run simultaneously on Wednesdays and Fridays. Students have the option of attending either a single day or both. The difference between the Experience and Leadership students is a distinction that we will make when we see the full group in the Fall. It will be based upon age, experience, and the need for added responsibility that we see in individual students. We will not know this until the first couple weeks. This will be a dynamic separation, evolving and changing throughout the year.
YOUTH EXPERIENCE:
This is the foundation of learning at Laughing Coyote Project for home schooled children. During this time students will develop creativity, self-directed learning, and will be shown the broad possibilities of skills that they can learn.
These include: nature-based arts, knife safety and whittling, games, animal husbandry, tracking, exploring, sense of place, identification of local plants, courtesy and social awareness.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP:
For older students, Youth Leadership offers an opportunity to deepen the skills covered in Youth Experience. Students will deepen their relationship to the Laughing Coyote Skill Tool-Box, as well as have added responsibility assisting with the Youth Experience students. There will be intensive studies of specific skills and subjects, and time will be divided between large group activities and small group focused projects.
